On 25 April 2022 in Tehran, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Pēteris Vaivars, presented his credentials to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi.
President Raisi expressed hope in the advancement of relations between Iran and Latvia and in preparedness to actively cooperate with the Ambassador.
Pēteris Vaivars confirmed his intention to promote friendship between the two countries and highlighted the centenary of Latvia’s recognition de jure (Iran recognised independence of Latvia in 1921). The Ambassador thanked Iran for never accepting Latvia’s occupation.
As part of his accreditation visit, Ambassador Vaivars met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Dr Hossein Amir Abdollahian. The officials underlined their desire to intensify bilateral relations along with improvements in the international situation.
