On 20 September 2023, during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.
In a conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Krišjānis Kariņš expressed concern over developments in Karabakh and called for a peaceful resolution of the situation through the use of all the diplomatic and political instruments available; among other things, he underlined the importance of the mediator role of the European Union and the United States of America in finding a solution acceptable for all the parties.
