The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, will open a strategic seminar organised by the Latvian and Estonian Foreign Ministries. The event is being held for the ninth consecutive year and is to take place on 17 and 18 September 2024 in Valga County, Estonia. The seminar aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Latvia and Estonia, as well as their regional and international cooperation.
The seminar will bring together the leadership of the Foreign Ministries of Latvia and Estonia and experts from the Foreign Services. The agenda of this year’s meeting covers security and defence topics, in particular, support to Ukraine, Russia’s regular hybrid threats, NATO-related developments, the EU enlargement process and other pressing international issues. Latvia standing as a candidate for an elected member’s seat on the UN Security Council in 2026–2027 will also be discussed, this being one of the instruments in pursuit of the long-term objectives of Latvia’s foreign policy.
The seminar of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries is organised annually on a rotational basis in Latvia or Estonia.
