On 2 November 2023 in Berlin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annalena Baerbock. At their meeting, the Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral cooperation, including in the field of the development of military industry. The Minister thanked his colleague for Germany’s current contribution to the security of the Baltic region.

The officials noted the high potential for economic cooperation. Krišjānis Kariņš emphasized that Latvia was open to German investments both in various projects and in innovative technologies and renewable energy, especially the development of offshore wind farms.

In an exchange on topics high on the European and global agenda, the Ministers agreed on the need to persist with supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes. At the same time, global partners should be approached, on a continuing basis, concerning their support for Ukraine’s peace initiative.

The Ministers strongly condemned the attacks by the Hamas terrorist organisation on Israel and underlined the need for political solutions to sustainable stability in the region.
