On 15 September 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, will welcome the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, who is coming to Latvia on a working visit. The ministers will discuss the bilateral relations between Latvia and Lithuania, regional cooperation, the security situation in the region, support for Ukraine, and topics high on the international agenda.
In an official ceremony, the Ministers will present the annual Balts’ Award bestowed by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Lithuania to recognize excellence and achievement in research, fostering and strengthening of the Balts’ heritage. The award was assigned for the first time in 2018.
The Ministers will then open the presentation of a future cooperation report, “Strategic Commitment and Choices for Latvia and Lithuania in the Age of Disruption and Great Power Rivalry”. The report is a strategic overview of cooperation between the two countries at the time of global challenges, and it offers recommendations for the enhancement and development of bilateral relations. The report was drawn up by the researcher and former ambassador, Gints Jegermanis, on the part of Latvia, and the former ambassador, Neris Germanas, on the part of Lithuania.
As part of the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, will give a joint press conference.
