From 26 to 28 September, Latvian diplomats working with economic affairs gathered for their seventh annual training at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to gain an in-depth insight into the current economic and development perspectives of Latvia, as well as to promote cooperation between our diplomats and Latvia’s business community. The training programme covers topics such as the increase of macroeconomic and economic competitiveness, climate, energy and green technologies, as well as innovation and start-ups. As part of training, the diplomats will visit the Latgale region and become acquainted with business activities.
In his address to the participants, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, underlined that economic transformation and increase in exports would remain among the priorities in the work of the Latvian embassies. “We need to keep talking about the open business environment of Latvia and best practice examples of doing business. Our companies are demonstrating that it is possible to develop rapidly and be leaders in their sector in the European market,” the State Secretary emphasised.
By tradition, the participants are also visiting companies on site in one of the regions – and this year it is Latgale. On 27 September, the diplomats are to go on their regional tour to the Latgale Special Economic Zone and visit local companies SIA Regula Baltija, SIA Pulsar Optics, and SIA Zieglera Mašīnbūve, while on 28 September the diplomats will get acquainted with companies operating in the Rēzekne Special Economic Zone SIA VTI Avoti, RSEZ SIA OptoElektronika LV, ZS Riekstiņi, and ZS Klotiņi.
The participants of the regional training visit are Latvian diplomats who work with the promotion of economic relations and cooperation on a daily basis. They are welcomed by representatives from the Latgale Planning Region Development Council, the local governments of Latgale, and business people. The participants will also meet with the staff of the Latgale Business Centre, a State-owned development finance institution ALTUM, and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA).
The annual training sessions bring together more than 30 diplomats from Latvia’s diplomatic missions in 30 countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers thanks to the administration of the Latgale Planning Region and partners from the Latgale Special Economic Zone for their support and contribution to the development of the training programme.
