On 21 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, delivered an address to the special Ministerial Panel of the CII India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave, calling on India’s businesses to develop cooperation with Latvia, notably in digital technologies, innovations and the space sector.
The Foreign Minister highlighted Latvia’s open business environment and focus on innovation.
“Latvia, which regained its independence more than 30 years ago, is part of the single market of the European Union. The business environment is focused on introducing and developing innovations in various fields. We are open to and interested in enhancing relations with India; therefore, I invite Indian business people to build contacts with Latvia,” Krišjānis Kariņš said.
On the second day of his working visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs took part in a discussion on future security challenges hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), an Indian think-tank. During the event, Krišjānis Kariņš underlined that both the European Union and India were interested in safeguarding international law, which opens up opportunities and the need for closer cooperation.
At the end of the second day of his working visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated the opening of a multilateral conference, the Raisina Dialogue. On the margins of the conference, Krišjānis Kariņš together with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic States and Nordic countries met with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
