On 19 February 2022, during the Munich Security Conference held in Germany, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Al Safadi.
In a discussion on key topics in the Latvian-Jordanian bilateral dialogue, Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs invited his Jordanian counterpart to visit Latvia. The Ministers were unanimous that issues concerning bilateral relations and latest regional developments should be discussed as part of the mechanism of bilateral political consultations, the next round of which could be arranged in Riga.
The Latvian Foreign Minister underlined that Latvia was interested in new opportunities for expanding economic dialogue, especially in the areas of ICT, logistics and transport. We also see potential for cooperation in the educational sector, Edgars Rinkēvičs noted.
During the meeting, the ministers of the two countries discussed issues of regional relevance, including the Middle East peace process, the situation in Syria and Ukraine, as well as the prospects of a dialogue between the European Union and Jordan.
