On 10 July 2021 in Dubrovnik, during the Dubrovnik Forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, had a bilateral meeting with the Second Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla Schwarz. The Ministers discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation and recent developments in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
The Ministers commended the good bilateral relations between the countries and agreed on strengthening of those contacts. Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed that Latvia stands up for a more active involvement of the EU in the Western Balkans region.
Edgars Rinkēvičs also expressed satisfaction with Latvia’s return to the international peacekeeping force in Kosovo, KFOR, this July. This mission is vital for stability and peace in Kosovo, the Western Balkans, and Europe as a whole. Latvia participated in the KFOR from 2000 to 2009, and the decision to resume membership was taken in 2020.
