On 22 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Andorra, Maria Ubach i Font, for a discussion on bilateral relations, latest international developments, and cooperation in international organisations.
During the conversation, Edgars Rinkēvičs expressed interest in intensifying the bilateral dialogue between Latvia and Andorra both through bilateral contacts and in internationals formats. We are open to broader cooperation, especially in bioeconomy, biomedicine, in the field of smart materials, smart energy, information technology, and tourism, the Minister underlined.
The officials exchanged views on Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine. The Latvian Foreign Minister emphasised that pressure on Russia should be continued by applying sanctions to the economic sector.
Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that in 2025, for the first time, Latvia would stand as a candidate in elections to the United Nations Security Council for the term of 2026–2027.
The Minister invited the Foreign Minister of Andorra to visit Latvia.
