On 10 January 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, is going on a regional visit to the town of Tukums, where he will meet with the leadership of the Tukums Municipality Council, see the Tukums Museum and discuss the European Union and foreign policy developments with the participants of the European Parliament Ambassador School programme.
During a meeting with senior officials from the Tukums Municipality Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will exchange views on the ways to promote the development of export-oriented entrepreneurship in the community and on support the Foreign Service could provide in that.
At the Tukums Museum, the Minister will meet with the management of the museum and thank them for successful cooperation in organising the cultural programme for the Latvian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The museum features an exhibition titled “Siberian Letters” dedicated to messages written on birch bark by prisoners in the Gulag camps and places of forced settlement in Siberia from 1941 to 1965.
The English and French version of the exhibition put on display in the National University Library of Strasbourg in France in 2023 was a major cultural event during the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers.
During his visit, on the premises of Tukums Secondary School No 2, Krišjānis Kariņš will meet with participants of the European Parliament Ambassador School programme from Tukums Secondary School No 2 and Tukums Rainis State Gymnasium to discuss current developments in the European Union and foreign policy.
