On 8 December 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, the Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia, Zane Petre, and the Head of the European Parliament Office in Latvia, Marta Rībele, signed an annual declaration for cooperation in the communication of European Union matters in 2022. This is the seventh year that the declaration is being signed.
The year 2022 in the European Union is going to stand out with the European Commission’s initiatives in a number of policy areas outlined in the Commission Work Programme for 2022 published on 19 October 2021. The new policy goals cover initiatives in the following areas: the European Green Deal; a Europe fit for digital age; an economy that works for people; a stronger Europe in the world; promoting our European way of life; and a new push for European democracy.
In 2022, the European Commission Representation, the European Parliament Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with their cooperation partners will organise an array of events on latest EU policy developments. A special emphasis in the event programme will be given to regions. Two traditional forums for EU information providers have been scheduled for spring and autumn. Other events include a Europe Day programme for May, participation in the annual “Back to School” campaign and discussion sessions in the regions; information campaigns and a series of debates in relation to the Conference on the Future of Europe will also continue.
The European Commission has designated 2022 as the European Year of Youth. With the aim of promoting more and better future prospects for young people, events are planned in support of the European Year of Youth in Latvia, including as part of Europe Day in Riga and the regions.
