On 30 September 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had a meeting with the new Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Latvia, Ermek Ibraimov, in a video-conferencing format.
The Ambassador welcomed Latvia’s support for reforms in Kyrgyzstan, with a special emphasis on the Intensive Programme in European Law and Economics at Riga Graduate School of Law, completed by 27 young professionals from Kyrgyzstan since 2014. Kyrgyzstan wants to expand bilateral cooperation with Latvia by strengthening the political dialogue and expanding contacts in the sectors of economy, transit, transport, and agriculture.

The State Secretary underlined that Latvia actively supported the strengthening of cooperation between the EU and the countries of Central Asia.
Andris Pelšs confirmed that Latvia was interested in intensifying the bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Kyrgyzstan, including their political dialogue and cooperation in economy and education. In pursuit of its development cooperation policy, Latvia will continue supporting the modernisation process in Kyrgyzstan by sharing its reform experience in the areas of good governance, education and green technologies.
The State Secretary and the Ambassador praised their countries’ good cooperation in international organisations and committed to its continuation.
The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan resides in Minsk, Belarus. An online accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 5 October.
