On 22 December 2022, in an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia the Czech Republic, Elita Kuzma.
Elita Kuzma began working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. During her career, she was posted as Ambassador to Austria, Sweden, Italy, and Germany, while in parallel, also serving as non-resident Ambassador to the Holy See, the State of Kuwait, Albania, Malta, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Hungary. From 2012 to 2013, she represented Latvia in the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
Elita Kuzma has amassed considerable professional experience while working at the Foreign Ministry’s European Union Directorate, as Head of the Economic and Bilateral Relations Directorate, and as Under Secretary, Head of the First Political Directorate.
Since 18 August 2017, Ambassador Elita Kuzma has been serving as Head of the State Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Elita Kuzma has been decorated with the Cross of Recognition (II Class), and has received high-ranking awards from other countries – the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star, and the Austrian Grand Decoration in Gold with Sash.
In her present posting, Elita Kuzma succeeds Gunta Pastore, who had been the Ambassador of Latvia to the Czech Republic since 2018.
