On 22 May 2023 in Belgrad, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Ieva Briede, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
The Serbian President and the Ambassador exchanged views on political, security and economic developments in Latvia and Serbia, as well as on the opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. As the Ambassador noted the interest of the Latvian side in developing closer links in tourism and business, she informed the Serbian President about direct flights between Riga and Belgrade launched by the Latvian national airline airBaltic in May.
Ieva Briede reaffirmed Latvia’s support for the process of the integration of Serbia with the European Union, welcoming Serbia’s progress and encouraging continued reforms. The Ambassador underlined that, in the context of the Russian war in Ukraine, it was important for EU candidate countries to align their foreign policy of with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU.
As part of her visit to Belgrade, the Ambassador also met with officials from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister of Serbia. In addition, meetings have been scheduled with the Minister of European Integration, Tanja Miščević, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Serbia, Borko Stefanović, and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret.
