On 25 February 2025, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Jurijs Pogrebņaks, presented a letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar.
In a conversation with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, the Latvian Ambassador emphasised the good and friendly relations between the two countries and confirmed his commitment to strengthening political dialogue and cooperation in security, economy and other areas. Ambassador Pogrebņaks thanked the Slovenian contingent for its participation in the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia and emphasised the importance of the presence of troops for the security of the entire Baltic region.
“Latvia continues to take substantial steps to strengthen security by increasing the national defence budget, which is already allocated more than 3% of GDP,” Juris Pogrebņaks emphasised.
During the meeting, the officials expressed support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the need to continue political, military and economic support to Ukraine.
Ambassador Jurijs Pogrebņaks succeeds Agnese Kalniņa, who had been serving as Ambassador to Slovenia since 2021.
