On 15 and 16 March 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is hosting peer review experts from the Secretariat of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as the National Contact Points of Germany and Lithuania, who have arrived in Riga to meet representatives from public authorities, companies, associations, trade unions, and civil society and discuss the activities and accessibility of Latvia’s National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct, aa well as drawing up recommendations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia functions as the Secretariat for Latvia’s National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct. In accordance with the OECD Council of Ministers decision of 2017, peer reviews for all national contact points have to be completed by the end of the current year.
Background information
In 2004, Latvia acceded to the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. The Guidelines are recommendations addressed by governments to companies and providing principles and standards for responsible business conduct that cover various fields of business-related ethics, including human rights, labour law, environment, corruption, consumer rights, disclosing information, science and technologies, competition, and taxation. 51 countries from all over the world have joined the Guidelines. All those countries have established their national contact points to promote implementation of the Guidelines
