On 10 June 2024, in Berlin, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dace Melbārde, participated in the 10th Steering Committee meeting of the Multi-agency Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine. The event takes place on the eve of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin on 11–12 June, where Latvia will be represented by the Minister of Economics.

The meeting discussed issues related to Ukraine’s budget needs, Ukraine’s immediate needs in the areas of energy, critical infrastructure and reconstruction, as well as progress in the implementation of reforms and the Euro-integration process.

The Parliamentary Secretary informed participants of Latvia’s planned support for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure by delivering transformers, power cables and other specialised equipment to Ukraine to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy sector. Dace Melbārde commented positively on Ukraine’s progress in continuing to work on the reform process and stressed that Ukraine is Latvia’s priority for development cooperation and that projects implemented by Latvia are helping Ukraine to better prepare for EU membership. The Parliamentary Secretary also informed attendees about Latvia’s support in the reconstruction of Chernihiv Oblast.

Background information

The Multi-agency Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine is a format established in January 2023 by the G7 countries (USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada), the European Commission and Ukraine. The Platform aims to provide Ukraine with coordinated support in the areas of finance, reconstruction and reform. Italy currently holds the Presidency of the Platform. Latvia has held observer status in this format since February 2024.
