On 5 April 2024, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Reinis Brusbārdis, met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Maria Varteressian, who has arrived in Latvia for political consultations.
The officials exchanged views on regional cooperation, current European Union issues and Norway’s interests in the EU. Reinis Brusbārdis stressed the importance of the format of cooperation between the Baltic States and Nordic countries in the current geopolitical situation, in particular, for ensuring the security and resilience of the region against various threats.
Support for Ukraine and bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Norway were also discussed during the consultations.
The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andris Pelšs, in a meeting with the State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Varteressian, discussed the topics of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as the most important issues on the international and regional agendas. Andris Pelšs gave a high estimate of the contribution made by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism in Latvia, including for support to the Ukrainian refugees in Latvia.
