On 8 November 2023, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Reinis Brusbārdis, met with the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Europe) at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, Leo Docherty, to discuss the prospects for the advancement of bilateral relations, and current developments on the international agenda, with a particular focus on support to Ukraine.
In their conversation, the officials underlined that Latvia and the United Kingdom were like-minded countries united by common values. Reinis Brusbārdis thanked the United Kingdom for its strong stance concerning the Russian aggression against Ukraine, and its considerable political, humanitarian, financial and military support to Ukraine. The officials also discussed cooperation between Latvia and the United Kingdom in the context of NATO. Parliamentary Secretary Brusbārdis thanked the United Kingdom for its contribution to the security of the region.
The exchange of views then focused on combating disinformation as well as illegal migration at the external borders of the European Union.
As part of his visit to Latvia, Leo Docherty also met with the Minister for Climate and Energy, Kaspars Melnis.
