On 22 September 2021, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, met with the Executive Director of the European Labour Authority (ELA), Cosmin Boiangiu, who was in Latvia on his first working visit. The Parliamentary Secretary and the Executive Director discussed the recent establishment of the ELA and shared opinions on its current and future tasks.
Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica underlined that Latvia had been supporting the establishment of the ELA right from the outset. The Parliamentary Secretary welcomed the measures implemented by the ELA and she noted that it was essential to ensure practical information on working conditions in the European Union (EU) Member States. A possibility was highlighted for increasing the number of languages in which the information on the working environment and terms of employment is available.
The European Labour Authority, established in 2019, is an EU agency that helps the Member States and the European Commission to effectively enforce and uphold EU legislation related to workforce mobility and coordination of social security systems in the EU.
