On 27 March 2025, political consultations between Latvia and Australia took place in Riga. The Head of the Bilateral Relations Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Katarina Plātere, and the Assistant Secretary of the Western Europe Branch at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, Mary Ellen Miller, discussed current cooperation between the two countries, including opportunities for economic contacts, as well as the security situation in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.

Katarina Plātere underlined that Latvia and Australia are like-minded partners, and she expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations over the recent years, including political dialogue and practical cooperation.

Both countries are united in their support for Ukraine and in awareness of the need to strengthen the world order based on international law. Both sides expressed hope that the EU and Australia will find a solution to concluding a mutually beneficial free trade agreement. This will promote economic resilience and growth in both the regions.

The previous political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia were held in Canberra in 2023.
