The diplomats expressed interest in teacher exchange under the Erasmus+ programme, as well as tourism development, in so far as the conditions of the pandemic allow for it.
The relations between the European Union and Turkey and developments in the eastern Mediterranean were also discussed during the consultations. Andris Pelšs underlined the need for continued efforts to reduce tension in the region, which is essential for a positive course in relations between the EU and Turkey. The Turkish side confirmed their interest in reducing tension. Deputy Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakcı underlined that EU membership is a strategic goal for Turkey.
The diplomats also shared their views on cooperation between the two countries in NATO and on current global agenda, including developments in Nagorno-Karabakh and relations with neighbours to the EU and Turkey.
