On 3 September 2021, in an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Norway, Mārtiņš Klīve.
Mārtiņš Klīve began his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003 at the Human Rights Division of the International Organisations and Human Rights Department, followed by postings to the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Latvia to the OSCE, UN and Other International Organisations in Vienna. Upon his return to the Ministry’s headquarters, Mārtiņš Klīve held various positions – he headed the COREPER II Division at the EU Coordination and Policies Department and the Southern European and EU Enlargement Division at the European Department. Mr Klīve has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Latvia to the Council of Europe and as Head of the EU Coordination and Policies Department.
Mārtiņš Klīve holds a Master’s degree in Law from the Free University of Amsterdam, the degree of Master Soc.Sci. in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Latvia. The Ambassador speaks English, French, German and Russian.
The Ambassador is succeeding Judīte Dobele, who has been the Ambassador of Latvia to Norway from 2017.
