Valsts prezidents pasniedz akreditācijas vēstuli Latvijas vēstniekam Turcijā Pēterim Vaivaram

On 22 September 2020, in an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Republic of Turkey, Pēteris Vaivars.

Pēteris Vaivars began his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992 at the Northern Europe Division. From 1995 to 1997, he was First Secretary at the Latvian Embassy in Finland. Pēteris Vaivars has been posted as Ambassador of Latvia to Ukraine. Romania, Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Republic of Korea. From 2000 to 2006, Pēteris Vaivars held the post of Under Secretary of State at the Administrative and Legal Directorate, and from 2013 to 2016 – Under Secretary of State, Administrative Director.

Pēteris Vaivars has received a number of awards from the Government of Latvia for his personal contribution to promoting Latvia’s diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Vaivars is succeeding Pēteris Kārlis Elferts, who has been representing Latvia’s interests in Turkey since 2016.
