On 7 July 2020, in an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the Latvian Ambassador-designate to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ivita Burmistre.
Ivita Burmistre began working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999. In the course of her career, she has been Head of the International Trade and Investment Division and the Department of Economic Relations and Development Cooperation Policy at the Foreign Ministry. Iveta Burmistre has also worked at the Embassy of Latvia in the United States of America and has been posted as Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Latvia to the UN in Geneva. Since 2016, she has been Latvia's Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and UNESCO.
Ivita Burmistre holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Latvia.
In her new post, the Ambassador succeeds Baiba Braže, who has represented Latvia’s interests in the UK since 2016.
