On 20 September 2023, in relation to delays in the transfer of funding from Russia intended for payment of pensions to the recipients of Russian pensions residing in Latvia, the Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., at the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Oleg Zykov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was indicated to the representative of the Russian Federation that a lack of compliance, in a timely manner, by the Russian side with its contractual obligations had occurred in this matter.
In view of the above, the Latvian side has informed the residents of Latvia who receive Russian pensions that the current payment has been delayed due to the non-receipt of funds from Russia.
The Russian side was invited to provide an explanation as to why such a situation has developed, as well as to find a solution to the problem. Oleg Zykov was informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had sent a note on the matter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The representative of Russia admitted that there has been a delay in the execution of pension payments and noted that the Russian side is currently seeking a solution to the problem.
