On 14 and 15 October 2024, Ambassador-at-Large for Global and Multilateral Affairs, Andrejs Pildegovičs, met with the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana María Mira de Pereira, in the first political consultations between Latvia and El Salvador held in San Salvador, the nation’s capital.
During the meeting, the officials confirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Latvia and El Salvador and signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs on procedures for organising bilateral political consultations. Opinions were shared on the opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in economy, education, medicine, and digital technologies, the ways of mutual support for candidacies in international organisations, as well as current geopolitical events, including Russia’s war against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East and Latin America.
Further during his visit, Andrejs Pildegovičs met with the Speaker of the Salvadoran Parliament, Suecy Callejas, the President of the El Salvador Investment Agency, Rodrigo Ayala, and Ambassador François Roudié, Head of the European Union Delegation to El Salvador, as well as visiting the National Library of El Salvador.
