On 4 November 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons met with the new resident Ambassador of Romania to Latvia, Sergiu Nistor.
The officials highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed their interest in strengthening them. Andžejs Viļumsons welcomed Romania’s contribution to strengthening security on NATO’s eastern flank and current defence cooperation.
In a discussion on cooperation in the field of regional security, the State Secretary praised Romania’s participation in the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission in 2023. Support provided by Romania to Ukraine deserves high regard.
Sergiu Nistor is the first Romanian Ambassador to Latvia to reside in Riga, thereby strengthening contacts and bilateral relations between the two countries. Until now, Romania’s interests in Latvia were represented by the Romanian Embassy in Vilnius.
Ambassador Nistor’s accreditation visit to the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has been scheduled for 5 November.
