On 11 September 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Angola, Manuel Pedro Chaves, who had arrived in Latvia on an accreditation visit.
During a conversation, the officials discussed current security situation in Europe and Africa, as well as the agenda for bilateral relations, including cooperation in international organisations. The State Secretary drew attention to challenges faced by Latvia after Russia had launched its full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. The Ambassador of Angola offered the Angolan perspective on the global security climate.
The diplomats commended the friendly bilateral relations between Latvia and Angola, pledging to work together to deepen them, especially in economy and education.
The Ambassador will assume office following accreditation with the President of Latvia.
Manuel Pedro Chaves is the fourth non-resident Ambassador of Angola to Latvia. The Ambassador resides in Warsaw, Poland, and is accredited to Poland and the three Baltic States.
