On 24 May 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had an online meeting with the new non-resident Ambassador of Cambodia, Eat Seyla.
The State Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on assuming his new post and he pointed out that Latvia is open for the development of political dialogue, especially in regional and international formats. The diplomats discussed the upcoming summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) to be held in the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh this coming autumn. They also welcomed the upgrading of EU-ASEAN relations to the level of Strategic Partnership at the end of last year.
The State Secretary and the Ambassador agreed on the need to develop the political and economic ties between their countries. Andris Pelšs presented the opportunities for cooperation in the areas such as information and communication technologies, and the transport sector. The Ambassador described the economic situation and measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in Cambodia.
The Ambassador of Cambodia to Latvia resides in Moscow, Russia. Remote accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, is scheduled for 25 May.
