On 1 March 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had an online meeting with the new Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Latvia, Salem Ait Chabane.
The State Secretary and the Ambassador expressed their willingness to intensify the political dialogue between Latvia and Algeria. The Algerian Ambassador voiced interest in resuming bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The State Secretary and the Algerian Ambassador agreed to work on expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including science, education and trade.
State Secretary Andris Pelšs mentioned information and communication technologies as a sector with a good potential for cooperation. Cooperation in international organisations was also discussed.
The Ambassador of Algeria resides in Warsaw, Poland. A remote accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, will be held on 3 March.
