On 12 April 2021, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the Ambassador of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg to Latvia, Paul Pierre Jean Schmit.
Andris Pelšs commended the close and friendly relations between Latvia and Luxembourg, and he underlined that Luxembourg was an important partner to Latvia both bilaterally and in protecting common interests in the European Union and cooperating at NATO. The State Secretary also noted the long-standing diplomatic relations between the two countries, with a celebration of the centenary upcoming in 2022. It is noteworthy that Luxembourg never officially recognised the illegal annexation of the Baltic States by the USSR from 1940 to 1991 either de jure or de facto.
The State Secretary underlined that Latvia and Luxembourg share an orientation to the development of products with a high value added and their application in the areas of innovative technologies, and he encouraged taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the “Green Channel” for investments as well as cooperation on products for the aerospace industry.
Paul Pierre Jean Schmit expressed his commitment to continued strengthening of relationship between Latvia and Luxemburg during his posting, with a special focus on deepening cooperation in business and trade as well as underlining good cooperation in the field of security policy.
The Ambassador of Luxembourg resides in Warsaw, Poland. His online accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 13 April.
