On 6 October 2020, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Rainer Saks, who was in Riga to take part in consultations between the State Secretaries of the Baltic States and German Foreign Ministries.

During the meeting, the officials discussed Latvian-Estonian bilateral relations, the promotion of business cooperation, and expanding the scope of nominees for the Languages Award bestowed by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Estonia.

Andris Pelšs highlighted the close cooperation between Latvia and Estonia and expressed appreciation for the chance to learn from Estonia's experience in order to plan and prepare Latvia’s campaign seeking membership of the United Nations Security Council. Rainer Saks spoke positively of the well-organised official visit to Latvia by the Estonian Foreign Minister, Urmas Reinsalu, that took place on 30 September.

In a discussion on developments in Belarus, the parties agreed that restrictive measures (sanctions) related to the narrowing of the EU-Belarusian dialogue must not have a negative impact on Belarusian society.
