On 19 March 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, received the Ambassador of the United Mexican States, Alejandro Alday Gonzalez, who has arrived in Latvia for an accreditation visit.
Andris Pelšs thanked the Ambassador for the political consultations of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs held in Mexico last autumn. As he underlined the importance of regular consultations for the promotion of bilateral relations, the State Secretary invited Mexican colleagues to the sixths round of the consultations in Riga.
Andris Pelšs outlined Latvia’s strong position in condemning Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
The diplomats were unanimous about the need to strengthen the bilateral relations between Latvia and Mexico and their cooperation in international organisations. The State Secretary and the Ambassador discussed the promotion of economic contacts, especially in the field of information and communication technologies.
The Ambassador of Mexico resides in Stockholm, Sweden. The Ambassador’s accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has also been scheduled for 19 March.
