On 15 February 2023, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the new Ambassador of the United States of America to Latvia, Christopher T. Robinson. The officials discussed bilateral cooperation, the security situation in the region, and Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine.
Andris Pelšs praised the excellent bilateral relations between Latvia and the U.S. and the strong transatlantic unity, which is of special importance in the current geopolitical situation. The State Secretary underlined that the unwavering and steadfast support by the U.S. was indispensable for Latvia’s security and defence. In a discussion on Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine, the State Secretary and the Ambassador were of one mind that it was vital to continue all kinds of support for Ukraine so that the war would end with Ukraine’s victory.
The officials made note of the close and overarching partnership between Latvia and the U.S. and they reaffirmed their readiness to continue the active political and security dialogue as well as to develop economic cooperation.
The Ambassador will be received by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, in a ceremony of the accreditation on 21 February 2022.
