On 2 September 2022, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, welcomed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey, Şule Öztunç, on an accreditation visit.
During the meeting, the officials discussed topics related to cooperation between Latvia and Turkey. They confirmed their interest in strengthening of the bilateral dialogue, continued exchange of high-level visits, and cooperation in NATO.
Andris Plešs underlined it was important to expand economic cooperation, including through further regular meetings of the Latvia-Turkey Joint Economic and Trade Committee. The State Secretary also underlined that it was essential to sustain the positive dynamics of cooperation in the defence sector.
The accreditation of the Ambassador with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 7 September 2022.
