On 19 October 2022, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, welcomed an accreditation visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Solon Savva.
Their meeting addressed the issues of cooperation between Latvia and Cyprus. The State Secretary and the Ambassador affirmed mutual interest in the strengthening of bilateral dialogue, intensifying the exchange of high-level visits, and continuing cooperation in the European Union and international organisations.
The diplomats discussed the current state of play concerning Cyprus and exchanged views on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, underlining the importance of the rules-based international order. The State Secretary informed the Ambassador about assistance provided by Latvia to Ukraine and its people, and about the strengthening of Latvia’s defence capabilities.
The ceremony of the Ambassador’s accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, took place on 19 October 2022.
