On 6 September 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, welcomed an introductory visit from the next Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Latvia, Mihaela Mocanu.
In a conversation with the Ambassador, the State Secretary commended the dynamic bilateral relations between Latvia and Moldova. The officials voiced satisfaction with the close political dialogue between the two countries with regular exchanges of visits by senior officials. The potential for cooperation in various sectors was also discussed, while emphasising that direct seasonal flights by airBaltic to Chisinau launched this year will have a positive impact on the promotion of people-to-people and business contacts.
The two officials also discussed Moldova’s integration into the European Union. Andžejs Viļumsons pledged strong support from Latvia for this process and underlined his readiness to transfer Latvia’s experience of reform and modernisation to Moldova.
Ambassador Mocanu will take office following her accreditation with the President.
The Ambassador arrived in Latvia this 1 September. The previous Ambassador of Moldova to Latvia, Andrian Roşa, concluded his tenure this past August.
