On 23 April 2025, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, met with the non-resident Ambassador of Argentina to Latvia, Carlos Federico Mascias, who is in Latvia for an accreditation visit.

At the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral relations between Latvia and Argentina, including cooperation in various economic sectors – information and communication technologies (ICT), energy, and education. Andžejs Viļumsons expressed his support for the signing of a trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur as soon as possible, which will create new trade opportunities between the two regions. Mercosur, or the Southern Common Market, is the leading trade bloc in South America. Full members of Mercosur are Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Andžejs Viļumsons underlined the need to continue providing all forms of support to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian war of aggression, and to further constrain Russia even more effectively thereby curbing its aggressive actions.

The Ambassador of Argentina resides in Helsinki, Finland.
