On 4 November 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, met with the new Ambassador of Japan to Latvia, Kensuke Yoshida. At the meeting, the officials discussed cooperation in the security sector, economy and international organisations.
Andžejs Viļumsons praised cooperation with Japan, emphasising the active dialogue and similar views on the challenges facing Europe and the Indo-Pacific region. Officials also underlined the need to continue cooperation between the countries in international organizations, including efforts to strengthen the rules-based international order.
The State Secretary thanked Japan for support rendered to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian aggression, while stressing the importance of continued assistance under the conditions where Russia increasingly relies on support from its cooperation partners.
