On 4 November 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons met with the non-resident Ambassador of Peru to Latvia, Ernesto Pinto Bazurco Rittler, who has arrived in Latvia on an accreditation visit.
During the meeting, the officials discussed cooperation between Latvia and Peru in international organisations, culture, and the information and technology sector. Andžejs Viļumsons underlined that political consultations were an important tool for expanding dialogue, and he proposed that talks be held in 2025.
The State Secretary welcomed Peru’s support for Ukraine in the United Nations formats and called for continued international efforts to constrain Russia. The ways to strengthen the European Union’s relations with Latin America and the Caribbean were also discussed.
The Peruvian Ambassador resides in Helsinki, Finland. The Ambassador’s accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, have been scheduled for 5 November.
