On 5 November 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uganda, Margaret Mutembeya Otteskov, who has arrived in Latvia on an accreditation visit.
At the meeting, Andžejs Viļumsons emphasized Latvia’s desire to deepen the political dialogue with Uganda. The officials confirmed their desire to develop the legal framework and discussed opportunities for promoting economic relations, highlighting the potential for cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies, education, and tourism. They also exchanged views on cooperation in international organizations.
The State Secretary and the Ambassador of Uganda then discussed peace and security issues. Among other matters, Andžejs Viļumsons informed the Ambassador about Latvia's support to Ukraine and the impact and consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Margaret Mutembeya Oteskova is the first Ugandan Ambassador to Latvia and resides in Copenhagen, Denmark.
