On 15 November 2021, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the new non-resident Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Latvia, Sergio Alberto Baur, who had arrived on an accreditation visit, and had an online meeting with the new non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala, Georges de la Roche.
During the meeting, the State Secretary and the Ambassadors took a positive view of bilateral cooperation in international organisations and discussed the ways of promoting cultural cooperation and expanding the bilateral framework. The State Secretary invited the Ambassadors to consider bilateral cooperation in the field of smart and digital technologies.
Andris Pelšs also suggested that Latvia’s services of logistics and distribution be used to distribute Argentinean and Guatemalan products in the Baltic Sea region, the European Union and the Eurasian space. The State Secretary highlighted the three ice-free ports in Latvia and its rail infrastructure. The Ambassador of Guatemala expressed interest in increasing the availability of Guatemalan agricultural products in Latvia. The ambassadors were familiarised with the currently largest infrastructure project in Europe – Rail Baltica.
The Ambassador of Argentine resides in Helsinki, Finland, and the Ambassador of Guatemala – in Stockholm, Sweden. The accreditation of both the Ambassadors with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 16 November.
