On 16 November 2023, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam, Tran Van Tuan, who was on a familiarisation visit.
During the meeting, Andris Pelšs welcomed the bilateral relations between Latvia and Vietnam and invited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold regular political consultations in Riga in 2024. The two officials exchanged views on regional developments and cooperation in international organisations.
The State Secretary expressed interest in intensifying economic cooperation by taking advantage of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. The partners highlighted cooperation in education as a promising area, including attracting Vietnamese youth to study in Latvia.
The Ambassador, Tran Van Tuan, is based in Stockholm, Sweden.
