On 15 May 2024, at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Secretary Andris Pelšs met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Co-Chair of the Latvia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission, Roman Vassilenko, who has arrived in Latvia on a working visit.
The State Secretary noted the active dialogue between Latvia and Kazakhstan, including the visit of the Kazakh Minister of Transport to Riga on 15 May and the 9th meeting of the Latvia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on 16 May, to be chaired by the Minister of Welfare, Uldis Augulis, on the part of Latvia and Roman Vassilenko – on the part of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the State Secretary pointed out that Latvia was interested in the further development of bilateral economic and inter-sectoral cooperation, notably in trade, while continuing close cooperation in sanctions-related matters to prevent their circumvention. Andris Pelšs and Roman Vassilenko also discussed regional cooperation between the EU and Central Asia, and Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as emphasizing that work should continue on improving and expanding the legal framework.
