On 3 April 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Moldova, Anatolie Nosatîi, who has arrived in Latvia on a bilateral visit.
The officials addressed the security situation in Moldova and the wider region. Andris Pelšs expressed support for Moldova, highlighting its resilience to Russia’s hybrid threats; he also noted the importance of Moldova’s integration into the European Union (EU) in terms of strengthening the reform, security and resilience of Moldova. In that context, the State Secretary welcomed Moldova’s considerable progress with reforms and reaffirmed support from Latvia for launching EU accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine as soon as possible.
The matters of bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Moldova were also discussed during the meeting.
