On 9 July 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had a farewell meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Govert Jan Cornelis Bijl de Vroe.
The State Secretary commended the Ambassador’s contribution to the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as underlining the close cooperation between Latvia and the Netherlands: 2021 saw 100 years since the Netherlands recognised Latvia de jure.
The diplomats were in agreement that the countries are connected by an active political dialogue and increasing business contacts. The State Secretary highlighted the common outlook to the development and application of products with a high value added in the innovative technologies sector. Andris Pelšs also thanked the Netherlands for its contribution to the security of the Baltic region and for excellent bilateral cooperation in the security sector.
Active cooperation with the Netherlands is under way not only in the EU and NATO but also in the Baltic-Benelux format.
Ambassador Govert Jan Cornelis Bijl de Vroe was accredited to Latvia in 28 August 2018.
