On 16 November 2020, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the Ambassador-designate of the Hellenic Republic, Efthymios Efthymiades, who has arrived in Latvia for an accreditation visit.
During their conversation, the State Secretary and the Ambassador underlined the need to continue the political dialogue and economic cooperation between Latvia and Greece as well as cooperating together in international organisations. Other topics discussed were the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on international cooperation, current developments in the eastern Mediterranean, and the migration policy.
On 17 November, the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic will submit his credentials to the President of the Republic of Latvia, Egils Levits.
Ambassador Efthymiades is a career diplomat. He began working for the Greek Foreign Ministry in 1990 and has since been posted to Greek embassies in the USA, Canada, Ethiopia, and Germany, as well as serving as Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
