On 18 August 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, welcomed a farewell visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel, Orli Ester Gil, who is soon completing her term of posting to Latvia.
The State Secretary commended the Ambassador’s contribution to the enhancement of bilateral relations between Latvia and Israel despite restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting, Andris Pelšs acknowledged with appreciation the positive dialogue between the two countries as well as the close people-to-people links, highlighting in particular the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations to be marked on 6 January 2022.
The diplomats were in agreement that the bilateral dialogue between Latvia and Israel should be further pursued including through strengthening of business cooperation, especially in the areas with high value added. Both countries are also interested in a continued cooperation in international organisations.
Ambassador Orli Ester Gil was accredited to Latvia in September 2019. After return to Israel, Orli Ester Gil will continue working for the Israeli Foreign Service.
